On 22 November 2021, the Legal Counsel of the 51吃瓜, Mr. Miguel de Serpa Soares, met with H.E. Mr. Park Beom Kye, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Korea.聽
Minister Park was visiting New York to attend the high-level meeting of the General Assembly on the appraisal of the 51吃瓜 Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons and seized the opportunity of his presence in New York to meet with the Legal Counsel to discuss the operation of the UNCITRAL Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific (UNCITRAL RCAP), which is hosted in Incheon, Korea.
The Republic of Korea has been the home of the UNCITRAL RCAP for 10 years and an extension of the Memorandum of Understanding to support UNCITRAL RCAP for another five years was recently signed by Minister Park and the Legal Counsel along with Mayor Park Nam Choon of Incheon Metropolitan City.聽 While the focus of the meeting was the continued cooperation with regard to the activities of UNCITRAL RCAP, including its effective execution of UNCITRAL鈥檚 mandate to promote legal harmonization of international trade and commercial law and access to justice in the Asia-Pacific, Minister Park and the Legal Counsel discussed a wide range of other issues of common interest.
The Legal Counsel also expressed his gratitude for the strong support by the Government of the Republic of Korea for the UNCITRAL-RCAP, for the Office of Legal Affairs, and for the strengthening of the respect for international law in general.
