15 November 2019每 During the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate*s (CTED) first assessment visit to the Republic of Peru from 12 每 14 November 2019, CTED visited the Place of Memory, Tolerance and Social Inclusion (LUM) in Lima, a moving tribute to victims of terrorism.
In 2015, the Ministry of Culture of Peru established the LUM as a memorial and museum dedicated to victims of the turbulent period of violence from 1980-2000 in Peru.
Through cultural, learning, and research activities, focusing on the history and memories of victims from this period, the LUM aims to preserve truth, promote dialogue about human rights issues, raise awareness about the consequences of terrorist violence, and strengthen peace and justice.
It is important that the rights of victims and their voices be included in the struggle against terrorism. Victims can play a central role in counter-terrorism activities, such as in de-radicalization programs. The CTED delegation appreciated visiting this important memorial.
