CLCS Trust Fund (Members)

Voluntary trust fund for the purpose of defraying the cost of participation of the members of the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf from developing States in the meetings of the Commission

Eligibility for Assistance

Assistance may be provided to members of the Commission from developing States upon the request of their nominating State through their Permanent Mission to the 51Թ.

Application

All applications for financial assistance must be made through an official communication from a State’s Permanent Mission to the 51Թ, requesting assistance for a Member of the Commission from that State, specifying:

  1. Which sessions of the Commission assistance is being sought for (up to all three sessions for given year may be requested in one communication);

  2. What type of assistance is being sought (air travel, daily subsistence allowance, and/or reimbursement for travel medical insurance/Headquarters medical insurance scheme); and

  3. What assistance, if any, is being provided by the State.

Assistance

Assistance may be provided from the Trust Fund for the following: 

  1. UN purchased economy-class roundtrip ticket to New York City;
  2. UN Daily subsistence allowance (DSA) to assist with living expenses; and
  3. Reimbursement for the premium paid for the Headquarters medical insurance scheme, or medical travel insurance and short-term medical insurance (subject to conditions, see  'About' section).

General Assembly resolution 55/7 requested the Secretary‐General to establish a voluntary trust fund for the purpose of defraying the cost of participation of the members of the Commission from developing States in the meetings of the Commission and invites States to contribute to the fund.

More about this Trust Fund

General Assembly resolution 75/239 authorized on an exceptional basis that the Trust Fund reimburse the members of the Commission from developing States, for the premium paid for Headquarters medical insurance scheme, subject to the availability of funds following the allocation of the required funds to cover the costs of travel and daily subsistence allowance of the members of the Commission from developing States for the sessions of the Commission during the annual insurance coverage period (1 July–30 June); and in case the full costs of the Headquarters medical insurance scheme have not been reimbursed, as an interim measure and subject to the availability of funds following the allocation of the required funds to cover the costs of travel and daily subsistence allowance of the members of the Commission from developing States for the sessions of the Commission in 2021, that the Trust Fund reimburse those members for the costs of medical travel insurance and short-term medical insurance on a session-by-session basis and subject to a reasonable limit that the Secretary-General shall determine, based on the information regarding medical travel insurance available.
