The Second Week of the Africa Dialogue Series 2024
Africa¡¯s digital transformation has accelerated in the past decade. The number of Internet users in Sub-Saharan Africa , over 160 million Africans acquired broadband Internet, and nearly??completed digital transactions on the continent during this period. African countries are looking to mobilize more resources domestically to finance education. At the same time, the call for innovative financing to bridge funding gaps in Africa is gaining traction, as public-private partnerships and blended finance offer promising avenues for attracting private capital to education- .
Centred on the sub-theme ¡°Transforming Education in Africa by Leveraging Innovative Finance and the Digital Revolution,¡± the Africa Dialogue Series 2024 (ADS 2024) enters its second week during a period of profound digital transformation on the continent and at a time when the potential is immense for innovative financing to drive impactful change in education funding and delivery in Africa.
Activities will highlight the importance of investment in education while underscoring the critical role that science, technology, and innovation play in enhancing Africa's education systems. Aiming to provide concrete, implementable policy recommendations, participants will exchange on the demands of the labour market, equitable financing mechanisms, bridging the digital divide and the transformative potential of digital technologies in shaping Africa's educational landscape. These exchanges will be underpinned by a new policy brief to be launched during an international webinar on the sub-theme.
The 51³Ô¹Ï Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA) and the African Union Permanent Observer Mission to the 51³Ô¹Ï () co-organize the ADS 2024 in partnership with the?International Labour Organization (), the International Telecommunication Union (), the 51³Ô¹Ï Economic Commission for Africa (), the 51³Ô¹Ï Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (), the Office of the 51³Ô¹Ï High Commissioner for Refugees (), the 51³Ô¹Ï Children's Fund () and the World Bank Group ().
The theme of ADS 2024 is ¡°Education through Science, Technology and Innovation toward the Africa We Want.¡±
The sub-theme, which will be the focus of this second week, is ¡°Transforming Education in Africa by Leveraging Innovative Finance and the Digital Revolution.¡±

The High-level Policy Dialogue of the ADS 2024, now scheduled for 30 May in the afternoon, will be a hybrid event. To attend in person, all media representatives need to be accredited. Media accreditation is open until 17 May 2024.
Media representatives applying independently must submit an application form, including a letter of assignment from a bona fide media organization, samples of their work and a government-issued ID. Instructions are available on the Media Accreditation and Liaison Unit¡¯s website.
Requests for delegation media, including journalists, official photographers and videographers, should be submitted by Missions and Organizations enrolled in the e-Registration system, which is available through the (instructions).
Note that ALL media representatives must apply for accreditation in advance, as there will not be on-site accreditation.
