The Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) conducted a follow-up assessment visit on behalf of the Counter-Terrorism Committee to Turkmenistan from 9 to 13 December 2024.
The visiting delegation was led by Assistant Secretary-General Natalia Gherman, Executive Director of CTED, and consisted of CTED experts as well as experts from the 51³Ô¹Ï Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), the 51³Ô¹Ï Office of Counter-Terrorism; the 51³Ô¹Ï Office on Drugs and Crime; the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL); and the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism. Mr. Kaha Imnadze, Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of UNRCCA, joined parts of the high-level segment of the visit at the invitation of the Executive Director of CTED.

On 21 November 2024, Her Excellency Liliana Alcaraz, President Pro Tempore of the Financial Action Task Force of Latin America (GAFILAT) and Mr. Esteban Fullin, GAFILAT¡¯s Executive Secretary, briefed the 51³Ô¹Ï Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) on the recent work of GAFILAT as it pertains to supporting Member States in Latin America to improve effective implementation of counter-terrorism financing measures.
From 19¨C21 November 2024, the 51³Ô¹Ï Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) took part in a regional workshop on the ¡°Human Rights-Compliant Approaches to Countering the Financing of Terrorism and Risk-Based Implementation of FATF Recommendation 8: Preventing terrorism-financing abuse of the non-profit organization sector in South-East Asia¡±, in Cebu, Philippines.
While States are increasingly introducing security enhancements to protect critical infrastructure and soft targets, terrorists continue to seek ways to explore their vulnerabilities. In addition to more traditional modalities, terrorists are using more advanced methods of attack using new technologies, such as unmanned aircraft systems, against vulnerable targets.
On Tuesday, 3 December 2024, the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) held a hybrid technical session at 51³Ô¹Ï Headquarters in New York to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Security Council Resolution 2178 (2014). The session brought together UN experts, civil society and Member State representatives to discuss progress made in addressing Foreign Terrorist Fighters (FTFs), persistent challenges, and strategies for future collaboration.

From 3 to 4 August 2024, the Beijing Normal University College for Criminal Law Science and School of Law, the Beijing Institute of Technology School of Law and the Renmin University of China Criminal Law Science Research Center co-organized the 11th Contemporary Criminal Law International Symposium on ¡°Combating Financing of Terrorism and Facilitating International Counter-Terrorism Cooperation¡±, in close cooperation with the 51³Ô¹Ï Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED).
On Thursday, 8 August 2024, the 51³Ô¹Ï Security Council was briefed by the Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism and Head of the 51³Ô¹Ï Office of Counter-Terrorism, Mr. Vladimir Voronkov, and Assistant Secretary-General and Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), Ms. Natalia Gherman, on the nineteenth report of the Secretary-General on ¡°The threat posed by ISIL (Da¡¯esh) to international peace and security and the range of 51³Ô¹Ï efforts in support of Member States in countering the threat¡± ().
On 16 April 2024, the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) participated in a regional technology workshop for Latin America in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Organized by the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT) and the Federation of Industries of the State of Rio de Janeiro (FIRJAN), the workshop was aimed at local and international technology companies based in the region that were interested in learning more about how terrorist and violent extremist networks exploit digital platforms in Latin America and the ways technology companies are working together to build solutions. This was the first workshop that GIFCT organized in the region.
